New yob attack on RSPCA clinic

From the archive, first published Thursday 1st Jun 2000.

An animal hospital in Cradley Heath has suffered another attack by vandals, despite spending thousands on increased security.

The RSPCA clinic, in Graingers Lane, has spent almost £2,000 fitting shutters to windows and doors after a spate of attacks on the centre - but now vandals have returned.

During a recent attack the door window was smashed, along with a rear window.

Volunteer Percy Archer said he can't understand why the clinic is being targeted.

Vandalism

He said: "There appeared to be no attempt to get in and there is nothing kept at the centre overnight, so I don't know what they are trying to do."

Volunteers are still fundraising to clear the backlog of debt accumulated over the last few months as a result of vandalism and the future of the clinic looks bleak.

RSPCA's headquarters general manager, Louise Anthony, said: "We are trying to expand services at the centre, but I don't know how long we can keep throwing in charity money to protect the building.

"It is tragic a service fundraised for by residents is being threatened by a small group who are trying to ruin it."

Anyone with any information should call police at Old Hill police station on 01384 566001 or use the Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555111.
