Firm's survey bags us £250!

From the archive, first published Thursday 20th Nov 2003.

BRIGHT sparks at a Kingswinford electricity company were switched on when they came up with a money-spinning idea to bring in £250 for LifeSavers.

Metering Services Ltd - a rapidly expanding subsidiary of Midlands Electricity - has generously gifted the cash for the critical care unit at Russells Hall Hospital.

Human resources project officer Richard Hale said 1,100 staff took part in an opinion survey and to encourage them to return their form managing director Martin Melbourne offered to make a £1 donation to a worthwhile cause.

Each employee was asked to nominate a charity they wanted to support and three came out top of the list.

In total £750 was raised to be split between LifeSavers, the Mary Stevens Hospice and the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Richard said: "We had loads of forms returned and as a result a huge amount of money has been raised for charity.

"It's a pleasure to donate a share to the critical care unit at Russells Hall Hospital which saves the lives of people living in our community.

"Although we are a national company we have a local HQ and it is great to be able to do something to benefit local people."

Metering Service's idea of encouraging staff to fill in feedback forms in return for donations to charity has been well received in business circles.
