A MAN died after he was involved in a horrific car crash in Stourbridge from which two women had to be cut free from their wrecked cars.
Barry Nock, aged 78, from Cookley near Kidderminster, died at Russells Hall Hospital on Saturday June 11.
Police believe the car he was driving - a blue Volkswagen Santana - ploughed into a red Peugeot 306 when turning from New Road into Worcester Street on Wednesday June 8.
At the time, the father-of-one appeared to be in a stable condition and was freed from his vehicle without the help of fire crews.
The pensioner was then taken to Russells Hall Hospital with a suspected broken leg.
It took firefighters more than 20 minutes to cut his passenger in the car, wife Beryl Nock, aged 76, free from the vehicle.
She had been trapped under the dashboard and suffered a broken neck.
Her condition at Russells Hall Hospital was critical but stable yesterday.
It took firefighters around 30 minutes to release the driver of the Peugeot, Khalida Khan, a 48-year-old from Lye, who was also taken to Russells Hall Hospital with head injuries.
Hundreds of passers-by flocked to the scene and office worker Dennis Nock said the impact was so strong he thought two lorries had hit his office near the ring road.
Stourbridge fire brigade sub-officer Nick Lacey said: "It was quite a serious accident, the way one car had T-boned the other."
The road was sealed off for several hours while the crime reconstruction team carried out its investigation.
