Theft was last straw

MAGISTRATES at Halesowen dished out a hefty sentence to a man convicted of stealing meat worth £21.21.

Scott Roger Lees, aged 19, of Stepping Stones, Stourbridge, was given 16 weeks' detention in a young offenders institution on Thursday June 2 after being told his record and lack of response to non-custodial sentences justified a term behind bars.

Lees was also sentenced to a further four terms of eight weeks to run concurrently with the 16-week term for three convictions of stealing and one of possession of Class A drugs.

Before Halesowen Magistrates on Thursday May 26:

q James Kenneth Handley, aged 27, of Burns Close, Stourbridge, was fined £550 with £51 costs and given ten penalty points for driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident to police.

q Paul Aaron Lees, aged 32, of Norfolk Road, Wollaston, was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £51 costs for obstructing a police officer.

q Robert John Watkiss, aged 35, of Fairfield Road, Wordsley, was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £200 with £51 costs after he admitted driving with excess alcohol.

q Natasha Amanda Jackson, aged 34, of The Kingsway, Wollaston, was fined £100 with £51 and banned from driving for three years after admitting drink-driving.

Before Halesowen Magistrates on Friday May 27:

q Paul Dean Keightley, aged 21, of Charles Road, Stourbridge, was disqualified from driving for 24 months from his conviction date of Thursday May 19, given an 18-month community order and required to pay £75 costs after he admitted driving with excess alcohol.

q Normunds Davis, aged 40, of Claycroft Place, Stourbridge, was banned from driving for 36 months, fined £250 plus £43 costs for previous convictions of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance or an MOT and two counts of failing to produce documents for examination by police.

Before Halesowen Magistrates on Monday May 30:

q Carl John Copson, aged 45, of Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill, agreed to be bound over to keep the peace in the sum of £100 for six months after previously admitting behaving in a manner whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned.

Before Halesowen Magistrates on Wednesday June 1:

q Luke Farewell, aged 28, of Pedmore Road, Lye, was banned from driving for 24 months and fined £450 with £51 costs after admitting driving with excess alcohol.

Before Halesowen Magistrates on Thursday June 2:

q Gary Nathan Walker, aged 25, of Mount Road, Wordsley, was banned from driving for 24 months, given an 18-month community order and ordered to do 100 hours' unpaid community work.

Walker admitted driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident to police.

Before Halesowen Magistrates on Friday May 3:

q David Kinsell, aged 26, of Trinity Road, Stourbridge, was given a community order for 12 months for a previous conviction for handling stolen goods.

Kinsell received a further 12-month order to run concurrently for a previous conviction for theft.

q David William Amies, aged 45, of Claycroft Place, Lye, was fined £50 for being drunk and disorderly.

q Brian Geoffery Arnold Little, aged 31, of Woodland Avenue, Quarry Bank, was sent to prison for ten weeks for a previous conviction of possessing an offensive weapon.

Magistrates told Little he was being jailed because of his prolific offending - he committed the offence whilst on bail, he was not deterred by non-custodial sentences and his numerous convictions for dishonesty.

Little was given a further ten weeks to run concurrently for a previous conviction for stealing and his driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points for driving without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with his licence.

q Damon Mark Tipper, aged 38, of Anne Road, Quarry Bank, was given a 12-month community order to carry out 80 hours' unpaid work after he admitted breaching a restraining order.
