A BELBROUGHTON man is fighting for his life after a road smash near the village on Friday night.

The man, who is in his fifties, was driving a white Mercedes when he was in collision with a green Land Rover Discovery at Hackman's Gate Lane.

He was taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham with severe chest injuries and his condition is described as critical but stable.

The driver of the Land Rover, a woman in her fifties from Droitwich, and three passengers were all treated for minor injuries.

The crash happened just before midnight on Friday June 10 and the road was closed for four hours.

Police are appealing to the public to come forward with information about the accident.

PC Paul Downes of the North Worcestershire Road Policing Unit said: "This collision, along with all other serious and fatal collisions, is being thoroughly investigated and as part of that process we need to speak to as many witnesses as possible.

"The roads would have been quiet at that time of the night, but we would like people who not only witnessed the collision but who saw the vehicles prior to the impact to contact us on 08457 444888."
